A dietitian is an expert in dietetics, which is the study of human nutrition and diet regulation. Dietitians change their patients' nutrition based on individual needs and medical condition. Dietitians are licensed to assess, diagnose and treat problems with nutrition. For example, safely regulating the diet of a patient with diabetes is beyond a physician's expertise, so a dietitian must be called to provide services. Dietitians do more than tell you what to eat. Dietitians supervise food preparation and service, develop modified diets, conduct research and educate individuals people about good nutrition. There are many reasons why someone should see a dietitian. Everyone should have a dietitian who they trust. Seeing a dietitian before a more serious situation develops is a lot easier and cheaper to maintain than the alternative.

These illnesses include heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, etc. There are a variety of drugs available to treat and manage diseases, but people often overlook nutrition's role in helping to manage these diseases and delay there progression. A dietitian can educate you about proper nutrition and its role in keeping the body healthy.
