Key reminders to creating a personal logo

A personal logo is a symbol that is created to represent you and what you have to offer. It is meant to be a simple way for people to recognize you and what you do that can help you build your business/career and/or your networks. You can also use it to present yourself to employers.

When you are in the process of creating your personal logo, you should consider using a part of your name or your initials so people know who you are. They should be able to look at your logo and know who you are and what you are all about. They should know what you can do or provide for them. You should think about what set of skills you have acquired and incorporate your skills into your logo.

What are logos used for?

The whole point of a logo is to represent yourself and your skills in the simplest way possible, but still be recognized. If you complicate your logo with a lot of intricate details, the meaning and recognition of your logo will be lost.

How to design your logo

Logos should always have at least two meanings; one obvious and one hidden. The two meanings that your logo carries should still represent you and your skills. For example, Mazda is an automotive company that is named after a God of the earliest civilizations in western Asia, Ahura Mazda. Ahura Mazda has been interpreted to mean wisdom, intelligence, and harmony. This God is also known as a symbol of the origins of Eastern and Western civilizations.

Your logo should be made to be very versatile, meaning it will look good no matter where you put it or what you put it on. It should be something that appeals to many different people and that draws their attention. Do not be afraid to make your logo something that you can change the color of to make it look good on different things and in different places.

Be sure to be original and unique. But also be careful and make sure you do not make your logo look too much like another logo or like an everyday object. Think outside the box and get creative. If you are using letters or initials, you can draw up your own font, which looks much better than standard fonts. People will better be able to recognize and remember your logo the more versatile it is.

Where to place your logo

Think about all the places you can and should put your logo to advertise yourself. Your logo can go on T-shirts, coffee mugs, your blog or website, social media, banners, business cards and wherever else you can think of. It can even go at the bottom corner of every page in your portfolio or at the top of your resume. Oh, and if you know you have an interview coming up, do not be afraid to incorporate it into your interview outfit and wear it where your interviewer can see it.

And last but not least, please remember to keep it simple. You want your logo to be seen, recognized, remembered, and associated with you and what you can do and provide for them.
