Philadelphia, known as the city of brotherly love, is a popular stopping place for people passing through Pennsylvania. The city is alive with history, art and culture and there is much to do and see in this old American city.

If you are not too interested in buildings and names and dates and if you long for the more natural, then you should check out some of the city's popular gardens. There are many gardens to choose from but presented here are some of the most beautiful landscapes to see in Philadelphia.

Bartram's Gardens

Among the tall buildings such as Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House, and landmarks such as the Liberty Bell, you can find Bartram's Gardens. This garden has the historical significance of being America's oldest living botanical garden, dating back to the 18th century. The urban spread of the city surrounds this simple but beautiful oasis of natural beauty.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and walk among wildflower meadow, walk along nature trails, sit beside a small river stream, enjoy the shade of majestic trees, walk along the edge of the wetland area and tour the stone house and farm buildings. This garden is situated so it is overlooking the Schuylkill River and is full of many native plants and is home to many different animal species.

Located beside the New Jersey State Aquarium, it faces the Camden New Jersey waterfront and is easy to find. The four-acre interactive spread has a carousel, amphitheater, butterfly garden, maze, picnic garden, dinosaur garden, railroad garden, storybook gardens, walking paths and a treehouse.

Longwood Gardens

One of the nation's most famous horticultural display gardens, this is a must-see for any plant lover who longs to get lost in the beautiful landscapes of Philadelphia. Longwood Gardens is located in Kennett Square and is the brain child of industrialist Pierre S. Du Pont.

The gardens are massive at more than 1,050 acres of trails and paths, gardens, collections, woodlands, plantings and meadows. Longwood Gardens features 20 distinct outdoor gardens, 20 separate indoor gardens, as well as fountains, benches, walking trails and plenty of amazing photo opportunities.

They also host many performing arts events such as music concerts, theater performances, organ and carillon recitals, and annual fireworks displays. Longwood Gardens is open every day and sees more than 900,000 visitors every year.
