Eat healthy while on lunch break

While on your lunch break at work, you are faced with temptations to eat unhealthy foods. If you are on a quest to eat healthier, there are methods of choosing better foods. One option is to purchase a healthy meal from the supermarket deli counter. Some good options include tuna sandwiches, turkey and Swiss cheese sandwiches, spinach and chicken salad and seafood salad.

Fruit and yogurt or cream cheese

This is great if you want something sweet but are trying to cut back on cakes and cookies. The night before work, cut up pieces of your favorite fruits and place them in a medium-size freezer bag with the seal. In the morning before work, take a few containers of yogurt out the refrigerator and pack them with the fruits. Reduced fat cream cheese also goes well with fruit.

Have a meatless lunch

Another great way to eat healthy at lunch is to go meatless. Some nice meatless options include tomato and pasta salad with herbs, quinoa and vegetable soup, grilled root vegetables such as carrots and butternut squash with polenta, and cream of mushroom soup with croutons.

Skip the soft drinks

Soft drinks contain empty and unhealthy calories so you should choose better drink options. These include iced tea with honey, iced coffee with skim milk, water, lemonade and natural fruit juices. They contain fewer calories than soft drinks and you can make these at home and put them in a Thermos.

Nut butter on toast with honey and bananas

Another idea is to eat toast topped with nut butter, honey and mashed bananas. Wheat or rye bread is an excellent choice for this snack and you can add a spoonful of Nutella spread if you love chocolate on your toast. This is a great alternative to processed sweets.

Popcorn drizzled with olive oil and sea salt

If you had a light lunch and looking for a healthy snack for the rest of the day, you can eat popcorn with olive oil and sea salt. In the morning before work pop the popcorn and while still hot, drizzle warm olive oil over it. Mix thoroughly and then add a few teaspoons each of sea salt and black pepper. Place the popcorn in a medium bag and tie with a rubberband.

Scrambled eggs with turkey sausage

Eggs are high in protein and turkey sausage is a healthy alternative for those seeking to cut back on red meat. This is especially a great idea if you feel like eating breakfast for lunch. Add herbs, cheese, dried spices or chiles to your eggs for extra flavor.

Enjoy sushi

Another idea is to visit a sushi bar and enjoy the different varieties there. Some sushi rolls contain seafood while others might have chicken or only vegetables in them. If you are not sure what to order, ask the waiter what the best dishes are. With these ideas you will be able to eat well while on lunch break.
