Get creative with these summer decorating ideas

Summer is here and it's time to get crafty with your home decor. Everyone's decor preferences are different so don't be afraid to incorporate your own style into your projects. Even if you don't know how to sew, that's okay because there are no-sew projects that you can find inside crafts books. Summer decorating is also a great way to have fun with the kids for a few hours. Here are some neat summer decorating ideas.

Paint your front porch steps a new color

If your porch has had the same color for years, now is the time to break out a bold summer color and paint your front porch steps. Look for a color that will not only be nice for the summer but that will make a neat transition to the fall months. For example, burnt orange would work for summer and fall. Once you paint the steps, you can stencil some words that make you think of family and the home.

Mini container herb garden for the kitchen

If you have a small yard and are currently growing some vegetables, you can bring a touch of the garden inside with a mini container herb garden that you can place in the kitchen. Grow herbs that you will use the most and pick the area of the kitchen with the most sun to place the mini containers in. The containers should drain well and you want to water the plants as often as possible.

Break out the summer-themed wallpaper

For those who do not have time to paint the walls in the house, you can still give your walls a makeover by pasting summer-themed wallpaper. Wallpaper is coming back in style and you don't have to settle for the boring patterns of previous decades. At home improvement stores you will find wallpaper design themes such as striped patterns, French country or Parisian design, patriotic designs, lace-based wallpaper or just bold colored ones. Wallpaper is an inexpensive way to decorate for the summer.

Family photo collage

Take a colored posterboard and grab your favorite family pictures to create a photo collage that you can hang up on the living room wall above the sofa. Get the kids involved and have them paint their handprints on the bottom and top of the posterboard. Or you can take a Sharpie marker and write a short inspirational saying about family life on top of the posterboard.

Colorful no-sew pillowcases for the kids' pillows

This is another neat way to have fun with the kids this summer. Pick out some old colorful T-shirts that the kids no longer wear and turn these into cute pillowcases. Find tutorials online and make the pillowcases. Once the pillowcases are finished, the kids can take some pieces of construction paper and write big letters on them. Then cut out the letters and staple them onto the pillowcases.

Summer is a good time to do fun projects as a family. These ideas are budget friendly and promote bonding in the home.
