Skipping breakfast? Think again!

We’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But how do we know how much we should be consuming, and what does a healthy breakfast entail? A healthy lifestyle and healthy eating start with a healthy meal. People who eat breakfast tend to be more energized and focused than people who do not. Breakfast creates the opportunity to take in more fruits. It can be the fuel you need to start the day right, stress-free!

Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, what would be considered healthy common foods to eat for breakfast? We all know fruits are a common choice. Berries are great to consume in the morning because they’re filled with antioxidants. As stated by Joy Bauer, from http://www.joybauer.com/food-articles/berries/, “The antioxidants in berries can help your body fight oxidative stress caused by free radicals that can lead to illness.” Berries are great for healthy skin and nails. Did you know that vitamin C is also found in berries? Imagine fighting that nasty cold and wishing for something other than orange juice.

Bananas are another good choice and a great source of potassium. I personally like to include bananas in my cereal or over a slice of bread covered with peanut butter.

Eggs are also a common part of a healthy morning breakfast. Furthermore, eating eggs is the easiest and quickest way of soaking in protein, which we all need to repair tissues and protect our bones. If you still need help deciding what healthy foods to eat in the morning, see the six items below.

  1. Berries and prunes – These are high in antioxidants, Vitamin C and fiber.
  2. Coffee – Yes, it’s full of caffeine, but did you know that coffee can reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and also helps with memory?
  3. Eggs – These are a great source of protein and vitamin B.
  4. Bananas – Go bananas! They’re full of potassium and contain no sodium. They also go well as a side dish with almost any meal.
  5. Oatmeal – It’s full of fiber and great for nursing mothers, since oats help increase breast milk.
  6. Grapefruit – The acid found in grapefruit is great for fighting unwanted belly fat; grapefruit is also high in Vitamin C.

Why would you even consider skipping breakfast? Developing healthy eating habits starts with developing a healthy breakfast plan. The items listed above, with the exception of the coffee, can be consumed in a liquid format like smoothies (http://tm.tips/5hs) if time is a factor for you in the morning. Still thinking breakfast is not the most important meal of the day? Consider obesity. Not eating breakfast increases your chances of being obese and makes it harder to lose weight. Skipping breakfast also alters your ability to focus and deal with daily activities. And it increases your risk of hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.
