Some of the benefits of using public transportation

Public transportation has several advantages. One benefit of public transportation is that it assists with your weight loss. This is because when you walk several blocks to and from the bus stop each day, you burn calories. In addition to this, riding public transit gives you the chance to calm down after a stressful day. Riding buses saves you money because you're not shelving out big bucks to put gas in a car. Most public transit companies offer discounted fares to children, students and senior citizens.

You meet interesting people

In my city, there is no shortage of interesting characters who ride the bus. Throughout my life, I met former homeless persons, grandparents who are raising their grandchildren, businessmen and single mothers who decided to return to school. The good thing about riding on buses is that you get to know people of various backgrounds.

You get to work quicker

When you ride in a car to get to work, sometimes you have to get on crowded freeways or other busy streets just to get to work. Depending on which city you live in, the bus system is designed in such a way that it will use more efficient ways to get you to your destination. This makes it easier for you to arrive at work on time. In my city, the buses start running as early as 5 a.m.

You can see new places in the city

The one thing I always loved about public transportation is that I got the opportunity to check out new establishments. Over the years I located new coffeehouses, record stores and clothing stores by riding on buses. It gave me the chance to explore the city in ways I could not have when in a car.

Productivity can boost

Another benefit of riding buses is that you can be more productive. When I ride the buses, I often see patrons read the newspaper, write notes, complete homework assignments or compose emails on their phones. When you get a lot done on the bus, there will be more time to spend with the family at home.

Fewer injuries from accidents

Generally, it is safer to ride buses than drive cars, since there is a higher percentage of car accidents than bus accidents. As a result, you can feel safe while riding the bus and reduce life threatening accidents.

Especially helpful for active senior citizens

Active senior citizens sometimes use public transportation, and this was the case with my great-grandmother. When she was alive, she rode the bus everywhere, and many times I would go with her. This gave her a sense of independence, and it was also beneficial for times when she was unable to get a cab.

Public transportation offers these and many other benefits. You should visit the transportation company's website to download the schedules of the routes you use the most. This makes it easier, and you will not have to worry if you missed the bus you wanted. Also inquire about discounts on bus passes.
