The health benefits of the Paleo diet

Initially developed by a researcher at Colorado State University in the 1970s, the Paleo diet is said to be designed with regard to the way human beings genetically and biologically are designed to eat. The Paleo diet is rich in lean meats, fish and certain types of seafood. In addition, the Paleo diet features non-starchy vegetables like spinach, broccoli, green beans and lettuce. The diet includes plant-based oils like olive and coconut.

Since its inception in the 1970s, the Paleo diet has garnered an ever-increasing number of devoted adherents. There are a variety of important health benefits associated with the Paleo diet.

Paleo is a clean diet

One of the key benefits associated with the Paleo diet is the fact that it generally features what oftentimes is called clean food. By this, it is meant that Paleo food selections typically are organic and lack potentially harmful artificial additives, chemicals of different types and preservatives. Research studies over the past two decades suggest that people who enjoy clean food on a regular basis tend to enjoy better overall health and wellness.

Paleo and weight control

Many people who follow the Paleo diet maintain that they feel better satiated after eating than is the case with a more mainstream culinary regimen. One of the reasons this likely is the case is because the Paleo diet features a higher protein intake on a daily basis. Because a person feels more satiated, there tends to be less snacking between meals, which represents a major culprit when it comes to obtaining and maintaining a healthy weight.

Moreover, a person tends to eat less at mealtime as well. In addition, a number of reputable diet plans focus on protein-rich menus as being useful in regard to weight loss and maintaining a healthier weight.

Anti-inflammatory properties of Paleo selections

Many of the food items included in a Paleo menu are rich in anti-inflammatory properties. In recent years, medical research has extolled the virtues of an anti-inflammatory diet. An anti-inflammatory diet is said to reduce the risk of heart disease, better regulate blood pressure and lessen the symptoms associated with arthritis.

Paleo is gluten-free

Because the Paleo diet is grain-free, it by definition is gluten-free. Gluten is a mixture of different proteins that are found in wheat and other types of grains. Some researchers maintain that gluten is harmful to a person’s digestive system and overall health. Some people have seriously negative reactions to gluten in their systems. There is evidence that gluten negatively impacts the overall operation of a person’s digestive system, causing broader health problems.

Paleo is a high fiber diet

With all of the processed food consumed by people in this day and age, many people end up lacking an appropriate amount of dietary fiber. Another benefit associated with the Paleo diet is that it is rich in dietary fiber. Dietary fiber aids in digestion and also is helpful in controlling cholesterol levels. This is beneficial in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks and strokes.
