Top 6 music festivals of 2016

Ahh, music festival season is upon us. The ice is starting to melt and the air is getting warmer. We’ll soon be trading our sweaters for tank tops and shorts. What better way to celebrate the warmer weather than to go to a music festival? It’s a great way to listen to your favorite bands, make new friends and party. From now until late summer there will be numerous festivals across the country. Here is a list of some of the most popular this year, listed by date:

Ultra Music Festival

This is an EDM listener’s paradise. This year’s three-day festival features popular artists like Afrojack, Avicii, David Guetta, Deadmau5, DJ Snake and Icona Pop. Tickets are already sold out at the festival’s website, but you can still grab tickets at StubHub or Vivid Seats. Still can’t get your hands on a pair of tickets? You can view the live streaming of the festival on its official YouTube page.

Where? Bayfront Park, Miami

When? March 18-20

Cost? Sold out, starting at approximately $533.00 on Vivid Seats

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival

This is considered to be the most popular music festival in the U.S., selling out quickly each year. You’ll even catch celebrities like Rihanna, the Kardashians and Drake hanging out. You can expect to hear rock, independent, hip-hop and EDM music. Some of this year’s performers are A$AP Rocky, Disclosure, Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding and Guns N’ Roses.

Where? Indio, CA

When? April 15-17 & April 22-24

Cost? General admission is $399; currently sold out

The Governor’s Ball Music Festival

Having started in 2011, it’s still a fairly new festival, but very popular, nonetheless. You can expect to hear rock, hip-hop, pop, electronic, Indie and folk music. Some of the artists scheduled to play this year are Kanye West, The Strokes, Miguel, Mac Miller and Of Monsters and Men. While you’re listening to your favorite band, stop by the Photo/GIF booth and get pictures taken with your friends, play life-size Connect Four or stop by one of the food trucks to get some grub.

Where? Randall’s Island, NYC

When? June 3-5

Cost? General admission is $105.00; VIP and 3-day passes available

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival

This summer marks its 15th anniversary. There will be over 150 performers this year on the 700-acre farm. You can expect to hear pop, hip-hop, EDM, bluegrass and gospel. Some of the artists performing this year are LCD Soundsystem, Pearl Jam, J. Cole, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Adventure Club and Miguel. While you’re there, take a break dancing, art or theatre workshop at “The Academy” or grab a bite to eat. Better yet, check out an independent film at the Bonnaroo Cinema.

When? June 9-12

Cost? General admission is $349.50 plus parking; VIP tickets are also available

Vans Warped Tour

If you’re a punk rock enthusiast, then this tour is for you. It started in 1995, and is a traveling tour that will be held in cities across the country like Orlando, Denver, Phoenix, New York and Dallas. The performer list has not been released yet, but besides punk rock bands, the tour will also feature popular YouTube celebrities and comedians.

When? June 24-August 13

Cost? Tickets go on sale March 22

Lollapalooza

With over 170 bands performing on one of eight stages, there’s sure to be something for every music lover. Marking its 25th anniversary, some of this year’s performers are Radiohead, J. Cole, Lana Del Rey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and LCD Soundsystem. The festival will also feature an “Art Market” where you can purchase music posters and unique fair trade and organic goods.

Where? Grant Park, Chicago

When? July 28-31

Cost? Tickets go on sale on March 22. One-day tickets are $120, four-day are $335; kids under 10 are free.
